You do not have to keep the whole claim in your head

Your first hospital visit may be in Orlando. Later care may be closer to home. An insurer may be asking questions while you are still learning how the injury will affect work or daily life.

A lawyer can help work out who may be at fault, which insurance may apply and what records are needed. The work should connect the event to the harm it caused. Each bill or phone call is one part of that larger claim.

This page covers Orlando claims within the firm’s Florida personal injury practice. The next step depends on what happened, how you were hurt and who was involved. Being hurt does not, on its own, prove that someone else was at fault.

Get advice for the event that interrupted your plans

A collision on the road

A crash can involve your own insurance, another driver’s policy or a work vehicle. Our car accident practice helps with the claim and the review of fault and coverage. Keep the report number, photos and any rental or vehicle details you have.

An injury on someone else's property

A fall may lead to questions about a spill, a loose surface, lighting or a repair. The firm can review the hazard and who had a duty to address it. Our slip and fall services can help you understand those issues. A report is useful, but it does not by itself prove that the owner was at fault.

A rideshare trip

An Uber or Lyft trip can raise questions about the driver’s status and which policy applies. The firm’s rideshare accident guidance explains this type of claim. Save the trip receipt and messages in the app as well as the usual crash details.

The firm also handles commercial-vehicle and fatal-injury matters. Tell us what happened so we can discuss whether the matter fits our services.

Keep the Orlando records with the care that follows

Start with the place and date. Keep the street address or business name, who took the report and a short account in your own words. An Orlando mailing address does not tell you every agency or court that may be involved.

Next, list the doctors and other providers who treat you. Include the first visit, later visits and any advice about work or activity. If you go home or change doctors, tell the next doctor how you were hurt and follow their advice. The records should show where you went for care and why.

Save practical records too. Travel changes, help at home, missed shifts and lighter duties can show how life has changed. Keep receipts and explain why each cost relates to the injury. A lawyer can assess which losses may be part of the claim. Not every cost will qualify.

Photos, witness details and business video may also matter. Keep the originals you have. Tell the firm about any camera that may have caught the event so it can look at steps to save the footage. A business may not keep video for long. Asking for it does not guarantee access.

Check the insurance rules and the time to file

Florida personal injury protection, or PIP, helps pay certain losses after a crash for people who qualify. Medical benefits require qualifying first care within 14 days of the crash. That is an insurance rule, not the deadline for every injury lawsuit. Coverage for a visitor or rented car needs its own review. See Florida’s PIP law.

Florida law generally gives you two years to file a negligence lawsuit. Negligence means a failure to use reasonable care. The type and date of the claim can affect the rule that applies. For example, claims against a government body can call for written notice before suit. An insurance discussion does not by itself extend the time to sue. Have the dates checked under section 95.11 and any law specific to the claim.

Your share of fault can reduce what you recover. In negligence cases covered by the rule, being more than 50 percent at fault for your own harm bars recovery. That rule does not apply to medical-negligence cases. An insurer’s claim that you were at fault is not itself a court finding. See section 768.81.

Speak with the firm about what happens next

Katz & Associates lists its Orlando office at 5401 S Kirkman Road, Suite 665, Orlando, FL 32819. Call 407-802-5289 to discuss your situation and arrange the next conversation.

Ask who will handle the case, how you will get updates and what the firm needs first. If you live elsewhere, discuss how you would share records and take part in the case. The plan should fit your needs. A lawyer should not promise that you will never need to return without knowing what the case will require.

Questions when the injury and your plans no longer match

I am leaving Orlando before I receive the report. Can I still ask for help?

Yes. Give the firm the date, location and any report or reference number you have. Explain when you are leaving and how to reach you. A missing report need not prevent an initial discussion, although the records may be needed to assess the claim.

My follow-up doctor is outside Florida. What should I keep?

Keep provider names, visit dates, bills, care instructions and records you receive. Tell the firm where you are getting care. The history should show how later care relates to the injury. Do not assume every later symptom has the same cause.

The business logged the injury. Is that enough for a claim?

No. A report can show that someone was told about the event. Fault and losses still need support. Photos, witness accounts, the hazard and records of your care may all help.

I received separate payments for my car and my injury. Are they the same settlement?

Not necessarily. Different payments can address different losses or policies. Have the actual offer and release reviewed before deciding what accepting a payment would resolve.

Can I recover the cost of a changed flight or extra hotel nights?

It may be part of a claim if the facts and law support it. Keep receipts and explain why you had to change the trip. The firm needs to assess that cost with the rest of the claim.

Let us help you decide how to move the claim forward

You may have a report number, an insurance letter or only a clear memory of what happened. Start with that. Contact Katz & Associates or call 407-802-5289 to discuss an Orlando injury and the help you need.
